About Homey Hygge
Hi, I’m Marlinda
For the longest time, I was afraid to add color to my home. I played it safe with neutrals because that’s what “cozy” was supposed to look like. Then I let myself fall for purple, and everything changed. My home started to feel like mine.
I’ve been creating content since 2012, and I live with my family in North Carolina. Right now, I’m intentionally bringing more hygge into our home and sharing what I try, change, love and learn along the way.
Hygge Is a Feeling, Not a Color Palette
What Is Homey Hygge?
Hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) is the Danish idea of creating warmth, comfort and connection in everyday life. It’s usually shown in white walls, pale wood and a lot of candles. I love the feeling, but I don’t think you need a beige home to get there. Homey Hygge is for anyone who wants a home that feels warm, welcoming and enjoyable to live in, with all the color and personality that make it yours.
The Homey Hygge Test
Does this make the space more comfortable, welcoming, personal, or enjoyable to actually use?
Every idea on this site comes back to that one question. If the answer is no, it doesn’t belong just because it’s been marketed as hygge.
A Little About Me
Five Things to Know Before You Pull Up a Chair
Purple is my color, and I’ve stopped apologizing for it.
I’m tall, so I’m always on the hunt for blankets long enough to actually cover me.
My favorite spot is my reading nook: a comfy chair, a lamp, a heated blanket and a plant stand whose grow light gives the corner a soft glow.
I prefer lamps and warm light to candles, so you’ll see a lot of lighting ideas here.
I’m a dog lover through and through.
